Abstract
This research works to analyze the existing literature on theoretical approaches to. human-animal interactions in order to recommend a more comprehensive approach. This research explores the failures of the quantitative, evidence-based approach to human-animal studies. The epistemological roots of the field have not been able to create significant claims about the research. The author crafts a recommendation for the future researchers by exploring how the theoretical understanding of human-animal interaction varies by the three types of animals in her research. The author recommends that human-animal interactions, viewed through the lens of the theoretical claims in existing literature, would be more informative if researchers abandoned the psychological approach and explored the psychosocial research methods. By focusing less on strict proof or evidence and more on personal experiences, researchers would more thoroughly understand the impact of these interactions on psychological distress. The author concludes that the theoretical frameworks of human-animal interaction are valuable but the research methods that were utilized do not adequately understand the potential for these interactions.
