The artist writes "for my SIP, I want to capture the unique expressions that many Mexican American students go through to be true to themselves while living on the campus of private liberal arts college. Through the use of various images, I want to capture how they are able to celebrate their unique identity through different means and in various outlets. These celebrations can be an expression of culture specific to holidays, birthdays, and other significant ideas that are worth expressing to one’s self. My aim is to work with them collaboratively to “frame” their stories through cultural ritual. I will be working with my models to find ways to best capture who they are. I won’t be asking my models to pose a certain way, I will in a way let them take control and find a way that will truly represent themselves in the most authentic way. This is important to me because the goal for my photography project is shaped to be a representation of their experiences. With the help of analog photography, I will be able to do so. Overall this photography will be for them. How do my models want to be represented and how can we best see their persona? This project is a way for me to provide a different perspective on these students as a mode to amplify their voices on campus. It’s a way to literally show the campus our existence, our resilience, and our determination to fit in and strive on this campus. As I continue to grow as an artist, I want this project to show where my passions lie in my sense of identity, comfort and belonging."en_US
