    Abstract
The artist writes "My Senior Individualized Project (SIP), entitled Collapsed Linear Borders , is a sculptural body of work that responds to the rationalized aesthetics of commonly used mathematical systems. After researching the philosophies of mathematics and the manifestos of various artistic movements – such as the Russian Constructivists of the early 19th century and Minimalists of the mid 19th century – I began to build my body of work. Over the course of ten weeks, I crafted four collapsible sculptures made of linear strips of foam board and wood. These sculptures reflect on themes such as the designation of space, the rationalization of aesthetics, and the economy of physical form. The linear elements of these works serve as borders that intersect and organize empty space. Yet, the rigid design of these components is juxtaposed by their mechanical ability to reconfigure into an infinitesimal array of forms. These sculptures act as inconsistent boundaries of space that question the comfort found in rigid systems against the unease of unpredictability and instability."
