Abstract
In the analysis of the Chinese food culture from an anthropological point of view, The author consulted references with books that focus on anthropology, Chinese philosophy and history, and Chinese symbolism. The analysis explores, observes and identifies factors that affect symbolism as a whole, then narrows down the ones that are related to food. Knowing the importance of spirituality being a form of communication between the people and ancestors and heaven, food symbolism that is linked to spirituality will serve also as a source of communication to ancestors and heaven. Additionally, Food symbolism in general is associated with national pride; however, through research and close analysis, one can see that there is spiritual overlap of both culture and philosophy. The other influences of Chinese food culture that also affect Chinese food culture are, history and politics. Lastly, the characteristics of harmony in Chinese food culture the five food flavors, the colors, and aromas. They also show the importance of spiritual health and physical health in Chinese food culture. Again, it is crucial to acknowledge that this study is an Anthropological interpretation of the influence of spirituality and philosophy in Chinese food culture.
