Abstract
Emotional contagion occurs when someone “catches” the emotions of another, and even mimics the facial expressions of that specific someone. In this present study, the interested topic was film, and how the close-up of the face can influence the amount of emotional intensity and character attachment is created in a specific scene. And therefore, perhaps creating the phenomena as we know as emotional contagion, within the audience. In the study, five different film clips were presented to two separate groups; one group, the film clips contained the close-up of the face, and in the other group, the close-up of the face was edited out. The study’s goal was trying to find a difference between these groups, but the only significant finding was the emotional intensity rating of the first film clip between both groups.
