Physical Warmth as a Source of Protection against Feelings of Social Rejection : A Proposed Study
MetadataShow full item record
Research has begun its exploration of the connection between physical warmth and social exclusion, however has yet to explore the possibility of physical warmth as a source of protection against feelings of negativity and loneliness after periods of social exclusion. This proposed study consists of 120 undergraduate students. The participants were randomly allocated to one of six groups in a 2 (social inclusion v. exclusion) x 3 (Temperature: warm, cold, control) design. Physical warmth and coldness was elicited through a cup of hot or cold coffee. I predicted that the participants in the physical warmth with social exclusion condition would show lower rates of feelings of negativity than the participants in the other social exclusion conditions.
