dc.description.abstractThe author presents a collection of poems in four sections. The first book, “Book of Stories”, uses a postcolonial lens to rewrite the stories of Puerto Rico. These stories are not traditional stories, they are hybrids of the histories and myths that comprise the overall Puerto Rican narrative. The second book, titled “Book of Theories” utilizes theorists Homi Bhabha, Audre Lorde, and Gloria Anzaldúa who work with postcolonial criticism to complicate the idea of being mixed race. The third book, titled “Book of Homes and (Un)Homes”, takes on the author’s own lived experiences within domestic spaces and how they shaped the process of self identification. The fourth and final book, title “Book of Carmen(s)”, explores the roles played by the processes of self-identification and nonconsensual identification in identity formationen_US
