dc.description.abstractCopper nanoparticles were synthesized using«-dodecyl sulfide to reduce copper (II) acetate in a 50/50 v/v BuOH/ diphenyl ether solvent at high temperatures (-200 °C). The resulting particles were characterized using UV-Vis and SPR. Particles had a UV-Vis absorption peak of-695 nm, and were between 5 and 8 nm. These copper particles, in addition to platinum, gold, and silver nanoparticles, were used in conjunction with TiCO2 under UV light in an attempt to split water. Evolved gasses were analyzed with low-molecular-weight GC. Transparent TiCO2 thin films were prepared on a microscope-slide substrate for use in in-situ reactions within sealed cuvettes. These cuvette reactions were monitored via UV-Vis spectrophotometry.en_US
