Abstract

The objective of my SIP was to explore the different ways that context and meaning are implemented into a work of art. What I hoped to achieve from conscious integration of meaning was to change my approach to art from formally based to more conceptual. My approach evolved greatly during my SIP, it began with deriving meaning from formal elements. I was unsatisfied with the result, I then scrapped everything that had become habitual in my work, this lead me to becoming more narrative. By the end of my SIP, my approach evolved into a mixture of formal and conceptual principles, I became more narrative, addressing larger themes, but did not completely out materiality. My SIP was based on changing habits in art to change the direction of my art. I was not focused on solely formal principles anymore, I wanted my work to develop in a new direction, to communicate larger ideas to the viewer.
