Unidentifiable Feelings of an Outsider

The main objective of this Senior Individualized Project (SIP) project was to explore the ramifications of anxiety and mental illness on a conceptual level, but on a material one as well to further develop my artistic style and the use of my work to convey a narrative. This was done through the usage of pre-taken photographs and the incorporation of ink drawings into the piece through scanning and Photoshop. Further alterations to the photographic image were also done during this process. The product of all of this is 30 digital images, each one 8.5 inches tall by 11 inches wide, printed out as 13 inch by 19 inch prints for the purposes of gallery display. The narrative for this project is inspired in part by my own experiences, and in particular my time on the Kalamazoo campus, of which all of the photographs are taken. Such things were modified during production in order to make a story applicable to multiple perspectives and viewpoints, merely with the similar undercurrent of warped perceptions and feelings of being an outsider.
