In sports, it isn’t the best team of the season that gets remembered, it’s the team that wins a championship. More often than not, it seems that the best team should be the one that ends up winning it all. However, in the three major sports (baseball, basketball, football), this is not the norm. This paper focuses on Major League Baseball and why the best team in the regular season doesn’t win the World Series more often. It also addresses the factors that go into why a team was able to win it all even though they weren’t the best team, and what caused the best team to falter and not end up hoisting the World Series trophy. There are certain characteristics that championship teams must have in order to win. Although it is smart for teams to be built based on the blueprints from past successful teams, that doesn’t guarantee any championships. There are many teams being designed in similar fashion, and there are still things that are out of a team’s control that can cause problems when trying to make a run through the postseason. In the end, the game of baseball is full of slumps, tragedy, heartache, and pain – but the one year when everything goes right makes it all worth it. Finding the best and most consistent way to give your team a chance to win it all is easy to talk about, but hard to complete. The fact is that the best team in baseball usually doesn’t win the World Series, so does something need to change?en_US
