How the Recession Had a Negative Impact On the Golf Industry
Abstract
Every business cycle has periods of expansion followed by periods of contraction, known as a recession. Even the golf industry, which historically is late in feeling the effects and quick in recovering from recessions, felt a negative impact from the 2007-2009 recession. This SIP reviews post-World II recessions and then focuses on how the economy impacted the golf industry. The author evaluates the number of golfers playing, rounds played, merchandise sales, and number of course openings and closures. After viewing national numbers, the author analyzes local data from the Hinsdale Golf Club.
