Abstract
Relative glossiness of mixed and layered cone 10 ceramic glazes were taken in an effort to determine trends in glaze mobility and dominance. No strong trends were discovered when the mixed glaze and the layered glaze relative glossiness were compared to their pure glaze glossiness. This may be due to the inaccuracy of the relative gloss measurement. The MG6-S1 60 degree Glossmeter requires a flatter surface for measurement than was attainable with the 1.5” by 3” glaze test tiles used. Optimization of the test tiles might include larger test tiles or mold made tiles. An alternative approach of using an electron microscope may provide more data than relative glossiness could alone. An electron microscope may be able to distinguish distinct glaze layers and how much they overlap by tracking how mobile the colorants are able to be.
