Abstract
Nearly 60-80% of all adults will experience low back pain at some point in their lifetime. Low back pain refers to a wide variety of injuries, conditions, and disorders, often referred to by the length of time the pain persists. A herniated disc can be caused by an injury or trauma to the spine but also can be brought on by extremity or core weakness. Over the years, a wide variety of treatment methods have been implemented and researched for the treatment of herniated discs, ranging from conservative management to invasive surgery, all with very different outcomes. The array of different treatment methods have led to an overall opaqueness in the medical field in recent times, with no clear ‘go-to’ choice for those suffering from a herniated disc. By developing a strong background of the anatomy and physiology of the lower back, one can begin to piece together the multitude of different angles on their own that are possible for treating those suffering with low back pain.
