Abstract
"My forms are natural and organic, familiar on a subconscious level. Reclamation is deceitful in representing fluidity, malleability and animation, through inflexible fired clay. My initial investigation was centered on the idea of an escape. How could I represent an escape or an arrival and what does that mean? I set out to create an environment of energy and mystery. This developed into the tile project that uses smooth life forms juxtaposed with the rigidity of the tiled grid. Reclamation presents the deconstruction of human order through the uprising of a natural order. I view human order as a dystopia. The animated forms create a dialogue of longing. In observing this longing, we become witness to an intimate moment of hope, desire, and despair. This magnetic attraction fuels the revolution, as they break from their confined order to freedom. The space that exists within the barriers of Reclamation creates a new realm and this vertical cross-section suggests that Reclamation is part of something greater."
