Women in Computer Science

Abstract

Women have played a crucial role in the evolution of computing, dating as far back as the development of the first algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine, by Ada Lovelace in the 19th century. Yet even with this strong historical influence, and the fact that women benefit as equally as men from the services of technology, they are not a strong presence in the developing, designing, and creating teams behind the products. This report will explore some of the influences that discourage women to engage in computing careers and education, offer three proven solutions to these disparities, and describe the implementation and results of these three solutions across different platforms.
