Abstract
This series produces a commentary on the mind, body and spirit dynamic through the use of automatic action painting. The fluidity of watercolor is intersected with rigid archival ink to reflect the need for definitions and boundaries. Each of the fifteen watercolor paintings (and one acrylic) reveals this obsession with definition as well as the impression of life on art and conversely the suppression of life by art. In principle the concept of obsession, impression and suppression reproduce the relationship of mind and body with the spirt, or soul. With emphasis on material and process this body of work endorses the Abstract Expressionism art movement that was born in the first half of the 20th century.
