The objective of this experiential-based Senior Individualized Project was to improve the recreational opportunities and life skills of local youths. This has been achieved by coordinating new golf programming for young individuals in the Kalamazoo area. This programming is sponsored by The First Tee organization, which is well known for using the game of golf to improve development of life skills in participants. Working with members of Kalamazoo College Athletics, local organizations have partnered and expanded to promote this youth impact and outreach programming. As a national organization, there are chapters of The First Tee located throughout the country. The nearest to Kalamazoo is in Battle Creek, Michigan. One goal of this project was to expand The First Tee of Battle Creek programming into Kalamazoo, specifically at Red Arrow Golf Course. This serves as an improvement to local recreational opportunities and provides a service to benefit the lives of young people in the area. This paper will begin by providing details on the organizations and individuals involved with this endeavor. Following this background information, the processes and strategies implemented to achieve project goals will be described. Finally, goals for the future and potential outcomes are to be discussed. Overall, this serves as a description of the project experience and ideas behind this venture.
