Abstract
Insects, consumed regularly by humans in eighty percent of countries in the world, are a source of nutrition relatively unknown in North America and Western Europe. With growing population and continued climate change, insects seem to be a reasonable food source for all regions since they can be raised with relatively low impact compared to other livestock. The author, intending to become involved in the field of edible insects as a farmer and a processor with his new company, Colony Farm, investigates building a business responsibly from this perspective. With globalization and increasing awareness of social and environmental issues, businesses are under pressure to operate in a manner that shows respect to consumers, society, and the environment. Following the examples of companies that have made strides in this area in recent decades, the author hopes to show how their ideas and actions can be adapted to fit new companies, including his own.
