Anabolic Steroids Revolutionizing The Sport of Bodybuilding

The sport of bodybuilding is growing each and every year with increasing competition as well as popularity. Beginning with Eugen Sandow, the father of bodybuilding, in 1891 the sport has drastically changed from ‘the big show’ to the modern Mr. Olympia contest. Anabolic-androgenic steroids were the key to this massive transformation. The author looked at the history of bodybuilding, and explained why the sport has changed over the 125 years of the sports existence. The author describes the biological effects of prolonged use of anabolic steroids and explains a few reasons why one would take them. The author also gives recommendations for the IFBB to change the contest process to reduce the need and desire of anabolic steroids.
