Abstract
Henrik Ibsen is known as the father of the realist movement in theater and his works have remained an important part of theater as a whole. This study seeks to examine Henrik Ibsen's life by exploring his biography and his writings to identify common themes and underlying motivations. Using a combination of different personality research spanning Freud. Erikson, and McAdams, an examination of Ibsen's personality was conducted taking reference from his own life and his works. After the analysis, using a methodology developed by Schultz (2005), an attempt to answer specific questions about Henrik Ibsen's motivations and how he came to have his writing style is made. The validity of the claims is explored further, the main point of the study being a way to more fully understand Henrik Ibsen using psychological research methods.
