In order for gesture to be an effective learning tool, it must be understood as representational, which can be difficult for children (Marentette & Nicoladis, 2011). The current study tests this with a verb learning paradigm adapted from Capone and McGregor’s design (2005), asking whether children can understand gesture as a reference for actions.
