Studying the youth is an integral aspect of humanity, culture and developing social issues. This paper examines the relationship between modernity and agency in the context of youth leadership programs. The author connects the importance of youth leadership programs to the development of the youth as autonomous beings by using the work of prominent theorists such as Anthony Giddens, Zygmunt Bauman and Sherry Ortner. As our increasingly global society expands its markets and social spheres are dominated with diversity of language, religion, gender and economic class, the efforts to prepare youth with skills of decision-making, responsibility and agency are integral towards making a world that can communicate with one another in a peaceful manner. /^*\
