Abstract
The author reviews the influence and role of industry in Germany from the Industrial Revolution to the modern era. She considers four periods: the Nineteenth Century Industrial Revolution through World War I; the post-war 1920s; the rise of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party in the 1930s to the end of World War II; the aftermath of World War II. The author discusses the relationship between industry and government as well as how the approach to rebuilding Germany after World War II differed from the post-World War I period.
