The author’s exploration of large format photography began with a chance encounter with an abandoned house. The author describes the project that developed when she returned to the house: “My process for this project was intuitive. Above everything I sought to capture how I felt in the space, but I was conflicted about what I was feeling. Was I trying to understand the essence of what remained or the act of abandonment that left the space in disrepair? I was uncertain about the answer to this question. Sometimes I looked at the space wondering what it would take for someone to everything behind. Would anyone come back to claim their things? Other times I thought of the abandoned remains: furniture, computer, TV, boxes of books, and photographs. These objects once held meaning in someone's life. The space holds two different stories - the story of who left and the story of what remains.”
