The purpose of this SENIOR INDIVIDUALIZED PROJECT is to explore and attempt to answer a question which caused controversy amongst the author’s friends and family: “Why do you want to join the Marine Corps?” Through photography he investigates the correlation between symbols, signs, and meaning of objects that have been encoded in the photographs. These symbols are synonymous to the methods used by advertisers to conceal messages, many of which are subliminal in natural. Semper Fidelis is composed of four prints, 57in (144.78 cm) by 117in (297.18 centimeters). The project demonstrates the power that advertising has in influencing people. Advertising sells myths from antiquity, modernized to fit 21st century ideology.
