Redefining Detroit : Opportunities for Growth
MetadataShow full item record
Redevelopment has become the focus for many industrial cities across the central area of the United States. This paper seeks to develop a working model of development by analyzing the impact of supply- and demand-side development variables and how they are being implemented in so called "Legacy Cities," the older declining-population industrial places. Once established, the model will be applied to the redevelopment initiatives in Detroit specifically. This case study will analyze the impact of inside and outside investment on the different development variables. The study will use both empirical and anecdotal evidence as a means of analysis. From this case study, the paper will then propose further development goals as a means of filling the gaps that the current initiatives fail to fill in hopes of creating a more inclusive and sustainable city that can continue to grow into the future.
