Electric Load Shifting Using Ice Bank Thermal Energy Storage : Evaluation of System at Kalamazoo College from 1995 to 2013
Abstract
This study examined the performance of a Thermal Ice Bank Storage System installed at Kalamazoo College in 1995. Using detailed weather data and energy consumption data, cost savings were estimated for 2009 through 2012. From these estimates, the author was able to calculate that the payback period on the replacement of the current system with a new one is about sixteen years. Since the current system is near the end of its service life, a decision on replacement will need to be made sometime during the next two years.
