Caregiver-Child Relationship: Proposing a Program for Orphanage Hogar Miguel Magone
Abstract
The contrast in attachment styles between children reared in homes versus children reared in institutions, such as orphanages, is very strong. Orphanages and other institutions provide shelter and care for children and youth, and the caregivers become the momentary attachment figures. Caregivers at orphanage Hogar Miguel Magone in Guatemala answered questions regarding their experiences working with the children and youth. The answers of the caregivers were used to propose a program to implement at Hogar Miguel Magone to improve the communication with the children and foster the involvement of the parents with the orphanage.
