Stock Investment Strategies : How They Attempt to Beat the Market

This review provides an analysis of several stock investment strategies and compares them to the efficient market hypothesis. The strategies were reviewed using recent financial data and previously published works. The review found that the strategies cannot be used to outperform the market on a consistent basis. The review finds that some of the strategies provided information may be inconsistent with the efficient market hypothesis. However, with current information, the stock selection strategies cannot be relied upon to outperform the market. The author recommends that investors select strategies supported by the efficient market hypothesis. There were limitations to the review. Access to historical data on specific stocks and strategies was limited due to a lack of financial resources. Also, many of the reviewed studies are several years old and the markets may have changed significantly since they were published.
