Writing a poetry collection has once again pressed me to sit still, take a passing fixation and let it mature. I tend to search out fixations—a practical metaphor, an enchanting historical event, a cultural phenomenon or a world-changing hagiography— and then I obsess. I write, read, talk, draw, interview, photograph and talk some more about this preoccupation to the point of eye rolling. Like most, my body’s pain, my heart’s acrobats and my mind’s musings need to shine through changing lenses, refract different colors. It is easy to move on and difficult to choose to stay put with one topic and let an idea breathe until it’s ready to be locked airtight. And so I had the pleasure and the agony of sitting still with Wonder Woman.
