Abstract
Azabicyclic compounds have recently become a topic of interest for the treatment of cognitive defects in patients suffering from schizophrenia. It was the intent of this study to discover an effective and inexpensive way to synthesize a novel azabicyclic aryl amine in order to test its use as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist. The proposed synthesis was, in part, based on literature procedures. The main focus of this project was to identify a method towards a precursor that is necessary for the preparation of the targeted azabicyclic aryl amine product. The successful synthesis of an intermediate to this precursor was achieved and it is the author’s goal to continue research for additional improvements.
