In the U.S. young adolescents face challenging societal pressures from various environments. However, urban adolescent minorities' are at higher risk of becoming victims of societal pressures; for instance, higher rate of early sexual activity among minority adolescents is thought to lead to psychological •disturbances. The current study reviews a pilot program targeted at addressing the negative issues surrounding the lack of sexual education among minorities groups, focusing primarily on Hispanic and African-American parents and young adolescents in urban cities from grade levels 6-8. The program aims to works towards educating both parents and their children in sexual education including the importance of abstinence, and practicing safe sex in hopes to break communication barriers amongst parent-adolescent relationships.
