Abstract
The author describes the evolution of her original story, Mimicry, which tells how a modern family reacts to a changeling child in an age where the old fairy stories are no longer believed. Her heroine Olivia discovers that she is not the human she has always believed herself to be, but is rather a changeling. The author writes that “obviously, this situation is extreme, to say the least, but letting Olivia struggle with her identity and its ramifications on her life is still useful in trying to understand my own changes.”
