    Abstract
What I hope to accomplish with this essay are two things: One, to prove there is just as much thought and effort put into a superhero script as any other. And two, to truly understand how the public perceives superheroes. To do this I’ve delved into two eras in American history that one could call the Batman eras, and looked at them through a historical context. The ways in which these Batman books and films have both influenced and been influenced by culture and world events. I mean for this essay to be insightful and honest analytical introduction to an icon with a rich history.
