Abstract
The song "I've Got a Gal in Kalamazoo" was written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren and performed by Glenn Miller and his orchestra during the summer of 1942. It was nominated for an Academy Award and remained at the top of the Billboard charts for many weeks. When students returned on campus that Fall the men decided, under the supervision of president of the student body Robert Braithwaite, to hold an election to choose who that gal was. They selected Sara Woolley, a 19 year old sociology major, who was chosen based on her "beauty, popularity, cheerfulness, and pep..." What was Sara's reaction to being chosen? "Well, gee, everything's OK!" - Kalamazoo Gazette, September 20, 1942
