Promoting Creative Process in a Product Design Firm

Initially an effort to understand the variables and dynamics effecting product design, this research is the sum of my experiences working as an Idea Development Assistant (IDA) at Billings Jackson Design in NYC, as well as a review of existing research on creativity and collaboration. Following my research, it was hypothesized that the design process utilized at BJD could more effectively promote creativity and collaboration if design research processes were more effectively emphasized, formalized and implemented. In an attempt to support formal tests of this hypothesis in the future, the design process used at BJD was adapted to include new design research and collaborative processes.
