Abstract
The purpose of this current study was to examine the stability of temperamental emotionality characteristics, across children from 3 to 7 years old. This was completed through the utilization of structured laboratory tasks, which were employed to measure individual differences in two factors that compose temperament: Positive Emotionality and Negative Emotionality. In continuity with models focusing on the affective components of temperament, Positive Emotionality was separated into positive affect, anticipatory positive affect, sociability and engagement, while Negative Emotionality was divided into sadness, anger, and fear. Hypotheses: ∙ Based on the already existing literature on child temperament, I hypothesize that all traits will show at least moderate stability over time. ∙ Regarding the literature focused on which traits would be more stable over time (PE or NE) I also hypothesize that traits related to Positive Emotionality (such as extraversion) will show stronger stability over time than traits corresponding with Negative Emotionality.
