Melting Pot
Abstract
The author describes the evolution of her work away from the human figure and toward abstract expressionism. In discussing her collection of eight drawings using conte or charcoal on wax, paper, and canvas, she says “I didn't set out to make great drawings - the drawings I used are at best very mediocre - but I wanted to show the process of drawing and art in general and how it in itself can be a beautiful thing. To exemplify this, I decided not to use a whole figure but rather fragments and pieces of the whole in most. In each piece I manipulated and applied the beeswax in a different way to show the versatility of a simple material such as wax.”
