Abstract
The author introduces her collection of poems centered on miniatures, collage, and collection as a way of challenging readers to look at small details. “Miniatures get lost in the shuffle-small things are often overlooked, but they can be complex and detailed. They are, in a sense, a metaphor for what humans are. Collection is a way of defining one's self: people invest themselves in ‘stuff’ to commemorate emotional experiences. The result of that is collage: impossible to shift through unless paying close attention.” The first section contains Twitter poems constructed in 140 characters. The second section, Mapping, consists of poems with five rhyming couplets concerning the smallness of things in contrast to the vast reality of the physical earth. The third section is inspired by Alice in Wonderland. The fourth section, Talking Dollies, is composed of free verse descriptions of life as a miniature paired with dollhouse floor plans. The fifth section, Makeshift, is composed as sonnets.
