The author presents a collection of eight portraits painted in oils, inspired by the work of R. B. Kitaj and his loose technique that flattens the images on the canvas. The author states that he “thought that by trying to emulate Kitaj's style I would loosen up as a painter and would be forced to experiment with painting styles.” Other inspiration comes from the works of Toulouse-Lautrec and Egon Scheile. The collection is entitled Grand People from Some Splendid Age to “help illustrate the fact that even though these portraits did have extravagant and important sounding titles they are in actuality nothing more than everyday people doing nothing of much importance. They are just ‘people’ from ‘some age’ doing what they would do anyway.” Titles come from well-known works by Giovanni Bellini, Jean-Honore Fragonard, Leone Leoni, Andrea Mantegna, Rene of Anjou, Georg Petel, Levina Bening Teerling and Anthony VanDyck. Photographs include details from the portraits, installation views, as well as the eight portraits.en_US
