Quality for Kids, Inc., a subsidiary of the American Supplier Institute (ASI), specializes in designing alternative education solutions for 21st century learners. In my time spent working there, my quintessential body of work began with a very open ended question: how can Quality for Kids better connect with 21st century learners? A modern technology enthusiast, the mobile application market quickly emerged as the top choice for the firm. Mobile apps represent a gateway into a modern student's most prized possession, the cell phone. Specifically, this relationship fosters opportunities for exploration within the alternative education field. Study Buddy takes advantage of this relationship by teaching students time management skills from the convenience of their mobile phone. The research that ensued became the driving force for this paper. As my application began to take form, so too did my understanding of a broader transition that was taking place. Not since the Internet first connected people from different parts of the world has a communication barrier of this magnitude been transcended. The essence of this essay is to bring light to the new threshold of communication provided by mobile apps. Even the most portable computers remain idle for great stretches, whereas cellular phones rarely leave its user's side. Corporate America is desperate to get inside the heads of consumers, but getting inside their pockets may be the next best thing. This expanded connectivity makes mobile applications a perfect suitor for not just the education community, but for industries of all forms. Like the internet before it, this leap forward presents. a new shift in the way the world operates. The mobile app market is bringing about a paradigm shift that will change the world, an invaluable opportunity for Quality for Kids and all businesses alike.
