The following account is my attempt at analyzing what took place during my SIP quarter. I chose to focus this paper on the training I underwent during my SIP, as well as how it influenced my preparation for acting the role of Adriana. Although my performance as Adriana is the final product of this work, I think one can attempt to reconstruct how I approached the character through what is written here as well as through my journal and score. For me, this project did not begin with the first rehearsal and end with the final curtain. It really began with my foreign study experience in Cambridge, England. While working with excellent tutors during my stay, I was influenced by their teachings concerning voice and body and was awakened to training practices I had never before experienced. I feel that my time in England was a critical point which made me commit myself to the acting profession and the training that I will go through in order to better prepare myself for such a career. In my own efforts to be a good actress, I have found that the hardest person to work with is myself. In preparing for a role and in training for my profession, I discovered I have a tendency to over-intellectualize action instead of performing action. Often I let my inhibitions and fears influence my work, which I believe interferes with my creativity. The following work is an attempt to document my process of trying to overcome my acting phobias, as well as my efforts to find the best way to train myself for the acting profession.
