My experiences with improvisation led me to believe that sketch comedy was the next step in creating comedy for the stage. When coming to college, I began to explore the theatre and its different aspects. Immediately I was enamored with improvisation comedy. lmprov was very popular on campus, reaching out to those who never attended the theatre. It involved the audience and provided a fun environment at every show. The beauty in improv is the ability to create a clever scene based on an audience member's suggestion. It is immediate theatre. The improv shows felt like rough sketch comedy shows; they contained a collection of scenes in an exciting environment. It felt as if the next step was to take the scenes we had created through improv and clean them up. When I was given the chance to do a senior project, this was the first thing that came to mind. If the popularity of improv was any indication, sketch comedy would be very well received. I decided on writing, directing, and performing in a sketch comedy show. Thus, the birth of Free Pudding.
