Abstract
The goal of·the Applied Theater Program of the Illusion Theater is the prevention of sexual abuse, both in children and adolescents. Only recently has the sexual abuse of children received the attention necessary to make process towards prevention and treatment. For most people sexual abuse is the most troubling form of child abuse. It has been thought that our social taboos against incest were strong enough to keep acts of sexual abuse infrequent. This, however, is not the case. Improved public awareness and professional training has shown that the sexual abuse of children may be one of the most serious and prevalent forms of child abuse. Sexual abuse of children is, more than any other form of abuse, exploitation of the weak by the strong. Unlike other types of abuse, the damage done may not be evident at first, and ignored, thus leaving the victim open to further abuse. By ignoring the problem we are creating a situation where the abuse can continue, not only today, but from one generation to another.
