This Senior Individualized Project came about as a result of a series of events that occurred in my last two years at Kalamazoo College. The spring of my junior year, Holly Hughes received a Distinguished Alumni Award and returned to campus. In addition to performing her Bodies of Water, Hughes also taught a four day workshop on contemporary performance art that I was allowed to attend. This workshop initiated thoughts of doing a Senior Project involving one woman performance. However, it wasn't until Holly Hughes returned to campus as a visiting professor for the winter and spring quarters of my senior year that the idea began to take form. As I learned more about the genre of female autobiographical performance art by working on Hughes' Dress Suits to Hire, by taking her Senior Seminar in Gender and Sexuality in Contemporary Performance Art, and by being involved in the collaborative creation and performance of The Mystery Spot, I began to get more excited about the idea of expanding on this knowledge and creating a one woman show.
