Abstract
The goals for Bear Hunting were four-fold: 1) To challenge myself in the areas of writing, acting, and music. This was an ambitious project in all three of these areas, and I was curious as to whether I could "rise to the challenge" as it were. 2) To facilitate my growth as an artist. I have been in a good number of productions since high school, and even more music recitals since elementary school. I have found that I have matured the most through productions or recitals that have challenged me to what I think of as my limits. Such experiences as taking the lead role in Thorton Wilder's The Matchmaker, my first play, or having a solo in my high school marching band's competition show, and taking that to state competition. Although growth as an artist is something I believe happens when involved with any project, it is maximized when undertaking a particularly demanding project. 3) To reach the audience on different levels, i.e. have the audience entertained, but then thinking about the larger issues brought about through the performance, such as the (then) impending war in Iraq, and human vulnerability. And 4) to have fun working on a kind of project I've never done before. I believe that if one loses sight of enjoying the work they are putting into a project, then what they take away from the experience diminishes greatly
