Abstract
The following is my research of solo performance as well as my process of writing my own one-man show. I will begin by looking briefly at the history of solo performance, citing examples I have read about in theatre history texts and examples I personally have seen. I will also include biographical information about the solo performers. Then I will outline the history of writing my one-man show, through the preliminary stages to its most complete state. Moreover, I will examine the themes that emerged in Au Revoir Renee upon completion. Note: I will be using the terms solo performance, monodrama, and one-man show interchangeably, but I will provide a distinction between these terms with the term stand-up comedy.
