The author discovered The Age of the Plum by Latin American playwright Aristides Vargas while studying in Ecuador. She describes meeting Vargas, getting permission to translate the play into English, and ultimately directing a production of the play about two sisters confronting femininity, childhood, old age, death, love, memories, rebellion, escape, and sadness at Kalamazoo College.
