Abstract
The purpose of my Senior Independent Project thesis is to offer the reader an honest perspective of the Dallas Theater Center. A written account of my work at the D. T. C. is valuable only to me, whereas a straightforward account of my impressions of the D. T. C. work and the D. T. C. productions could be of value to anyone interested in the Theater Center. It is important, to me, that I present as objective a perspective of the D. T. C. as possible. Such an account is difficult in that no simple definition of the Theater Center is accurate. The atmosphere at the Theater Center is best described as paradoxical. The environment is influenced by three elements; Paul Baker's philosophy, the demands of commercial theater and the people involved in each production. The working atmosphere changes with the human elements in the production environment, therefore there is an indefinite quality to the D. T. C. working atmosphere. Because of this "indefinite quality", it is difficult to articulate what it's like to work at the Theater Center.
